Gull Pond

Gull Pond is a 109-acre kettle pond about 19 meters deep and the busiest of Wellfleet's ponds, with a shaded town beach that fills on summer afternoons. Kayaks, canoes and paddle boats launch from the landing, and a sluiceway links it to Higgins Pond, so wear a bright cap if you swim out from shore. You need a Wellfleet beach sticker to park from the third Saturday in June through Labor Day.

Getting in: Town of Wellfleet landing and beach on Gull Pond, reached via Gull Pond Road.
Parking & transport: Wellfleet beach sticker required from the third Saturday in June through Labor Day (2026 visitor stickers: $75 for three days, $110 a week, $375 a season). No parking 12:30 a.m. to half an hour before sunrise.
Water quality: Barnstable County's beach program samples Cape Cod ponds weekly in season for E. coli; a beach is posted closed if a re-test also exceeds the state limit of 235 cfu/100 mL.
Season: Sticker enforcement third Saturday in June-Labor Day.
Who swims here: The town Recreation Department has long run Red Cross swimming lessons at Gull Pond.
